Helping Families with Tax Credits

Helping Families with Tax Credits

If you're a child care provider, it's likely you receive requests for information from families and staff who are looking to claim the Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit. Here are two proactive things you can do to support this important benefit.

BE PREPARED

Families who are claiming a credit for child and dependent care expenses on Form 1040 or 1040-SR, will need the following information:

  1. Dependent Care Provider tax information. IRS Form W-10 can be used to formalize this effort. Your accountant may be able to help you print these out in quantity.
  2. A summary or total of what has been paid by the family for the care you've provided in the last calendar year. You may use this form to provide families with the amounts paid and provider tax identification information.
