Back-to-School Routines That Work

Written by Child Care Aware® of Missouri | Aug 24, 2026, 3:20:48 PM

As August ends, child care educators and program leaders can use the back-to-school season to reset routines, strengthen classroom systems, and find practical supports through Show Me Child Care Resources. The platform helps teachers, directors, and owners save time by locating reliable tools without starting from scratch.

A Back-to-School Reset: Routines, Planning, and Easy-to-Find Support in Show Me Child Care Resources

The end of August is an important time to reset classroom routines, refresh activity ideas, and prepare for the busy weeks ahead. A back-to-school reset does not require rebuilding everything. Often, it simply means identifying a few reliable supports that help the day run more smoothly.

Show Me Child Care Resources gives educators a practical place to begin. This membership-based platform from Child Care Aware of Missouri provides materials, information, and savings opportunities for child care professionals. Members can access a wide range of tools for classroom use, family engagement, program operations, staff support, and workforce benefits.

A back-to-school reset can start with three simple questions: What part of the day feels most challenging right now? Which age group needs the most support? What is one resource I could use immediately? From there, educators can identify a routine support, activity idea, transition tool, behavior strategy, or family engagement resource that meets an immediate need.

Directors and owners are using Show Me Child Care Resources to strengthen the systems that support teachers, children, and families. One center director shared, “Show Me Child Care Resources has been so helpful for our center. I used the job description templates to update our roles, and the tools made it easy to improve our employee handbook and orientation process. It’s a great resource for child care directors.” Another center director noted that the platform helped strengthen both employee and parent handbooks while creating clear expectations for staff and families.

For classroom teachers, this might mean finding a ready-to-use activity, a visual schedule, or a simple routine script. For directors and owners, it might involve locating a form, checklist, policy template, human resources support, or workforce benefit information. Show Me Child Care Resources is designed to support both the classroom and the business side of child care, helping programs save time and money while strengthening daily practice. One effective approach is to create a “go-to” list for your planning routine. Each week, select one resource for routines, one for activities, and one for family communication. Over time, these small choices create a more organized system and reduce last-minute stress.

The goal is not to do more. The goal is to make support easier to find when time is limited. Less searching. More solving. Show Me how.
