Our Latest Data Requests Have Been Focused On Much More Than Just Child Care

Many of the people who request data from Child Care Aware® of Missouri (CCAMO) are surprised that we can go beyond the basics of County-Level Supply and Demand information. We have the capabilities to supplement child care data with a considerable amount of demographics, and sometimes more than that.

A data request recently came into CCAMO asking if we could give them several pieces of information to help the customer better understand a few Missouri counties. For each, they wanted to know:

• Total Population
• Average household income
• Cost of living
• Major companies and employers
• Churches, synagogues, mosques, and other places of faith
• Food pantries
• County fairs
• Child care information
• Anything else you might think would help give me a peek into their counties

We were impressed that they were so very clear on what they wanted, and we responded with a gleeful “Yes, we can do that”. When it comes to Community Data, we pride ourselves on being open and honest about what we can and cannot do, our determination to pull together the data requested (and maybe what wasn’t but would prove helpful), and explaining what the data means. 

We completed their request within a few days. 

Since the goal of the customer was to better understand each of their specified counties, any additional information we could come up with would be beneficial to them. We dove into the request and ended up providing them with the following information:

• Definitions and explanations of the data so they wouldn’t get lost in the language
• County indicators on income, poverty, population, number of kids in poverty, homelessness, etc.
• Number of children under the age of 6 who have parents/guardians in the labor force
• Number of child care programs in those counties and their licensed capacity
• Community Resilience Estimates (CRE) from the U.S. Census that provide an easily understood metric for how at-risk every neighborhood in the United States is to the impacts of crises like tornadoes, pandemics, or economic distress
• County transportation data that shows how many people leave the county for work and how many come into the county
• Businesses in the counties with 25-49 employees and those with 50+ employees
• A listing of food pantries in each county
• A listing of upcoming county fairs for each county

The customer was very pleased, saying that we exceeded their expectations and that we were reasonably priced considering the value of the information.
