Missouri Supporting Early Childhood Administrators (MO-SECA), sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office of Childhood, provides no-cost training, tools, 1:1 coaching, and program assessment to help child care administrators effectively lead and manage their business operations.
Who can participate?
MO-SECA is offered to licensed and license-exempt administrators of early childhood programs that are registered to accept Missouri child care subsidies, including:
- Child care centers
- Group homes
- Family-based child care businesses
Program Highlights
- Leadership Training: Intensive interactive training on early childhood leadership where participants will gain critical knowledge and skills in the Whole Leadership Framework, leading effective teams, sustaining early childhood programs, managing organizational change and serving as community leaders.
- Business Management Training: Robust business management training that includes fiscal management, operations, human resources and more, with different sessions tailored to larger early learning organizations, smaller independent early learning centers and family child care businesses.
- 1:1 Coaching: Year-long coaching from a highly trained professional to help administrators work towards self-identified goals, reinforce learning from leadership trainings and respond to specific areas of need through evidence-based assessments.
- No-Cost Resources: Access to tools such as LivePlan for business growth planning, a Show Me Child Care Resources subscription, a Building Whole Leadership resource book, a subscription to Quickbooks Online Plus and more.
- Stipend payments for completing training.
Program Delivery
- In-person training sessions: Participants will complete 18 hours of in-person leadership and business management training in one of seven regions across the state. Training dates and times will be announced soon.
- Program assessment: Administrators will receive program assessments to guide their planning for quality improvement. Targeted program assessments may include the Program Administration Scale (PAS), the Business Administration Scale (BAS), the Early Childhood Work Environment Survey (ECWES), and the Organizational Equity Assessment (OEA). Administrators will be able to self-evaluate their capability with the Administrators Role Perception Survey (ARPS).
- Coaching sessions: Each participant will also work 1:1 with an experienced and trained coach through on-site visits and virtual consultation (up to 12 sessions). These sessions will be scheduled at times that work for participants and will focus on goals and activities that are specifically tailored to participant’s self-identified needs.
