EFFEC+ can help. Emotional Foundations in Early Childhood Plus (EFFEC+) provides strategies to support a calmer classroom and calmer you.
Over eight learning sessions, you will learn about social and emotional development of young children and discover strategies to build strong social and emotional skills where children can self-regulate, reducing the stress within your classroom. Self-care is always discussed at each session. In addition, you will receive individual technical assistance and opportunities to network with other educators to help you implement your new strategies.
Sarah is a child care educator from St. Louis that previously participated in EFFEC+. She said about the project, “The most important strategy I learned was that a stressed person cannot calm down another stressed person. I know that there may be times when I need to take a moment to collect myself before addressing a situation with a child. My favorite strategy was the “Take 5” breathing strategy. We use it a lot to help children cope with the stress they were feeling. There are still rocky moments, but I feel as though I am better equipped to work through those moments.”
