Self Care is Essential to a Joyful Season

Written by Child Care Aware® of Missouri | Dec 9, 2025 4:06:58 AM

The holiday season has arrived, bringing with it a whirlwind of activity. Between running your classroom or child care program and preparing for celebrations at home, it’s easy to feel stretched thin. What should feel festive can quickly start to feel like a test of stamina. As you keep everything moving, remember to pause and take a moment for yourself. A little care and breathing room can make all the difference in helping you stay present with the people you cherish.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness offers helpful reminders for navigating the holiday
season:

Know and Respect Your Limits

Holiday preparations can quickly turn into a long list of errands, expectations, and events. While
many of these moments are joyful, they can also be draining. Pay attention to when your mind and body are reaching their limit. It’s okay to set boundaries around how much
time and energy you devote to holiday tasks. Focus on relationships that uplift you, not those that deplete you. And remember, you don’t have to attend every event. A quick
phone call to send warm wishes can honor both the relationship and your own well-being.

Find Meaningful Ways to Give Back

Offering help to others during the holidays can be deeply rewarding. It strengthens your sense of purpose and sets a positive tone for the year ahead. Even small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.

As you celebrate this season, take time to breathe, practice gratitude, and reconnect with what the holidays mean to you. Give yourself permission to move at a pace that supports your well-being. It will all come together in the end.
