Where Are Children Needing Child Care?

We commit significant time to examine Child Care Deserts, geographical areas where families lack accessible child care options, either due to a shortage of programs or limited spaces in existing ones.

While our current focus involves assessing child care deserts based on the population under age 5, expanding our analysis to include children under age 6 with parents in the labor force (working or actively searching for work) would offer valuable insights, as they represent the demographic most in need of child care solutions.

In our map, darker shades of green indicate higher concentrations of children under age 6 with parents in the labor force, while lighter shades denote a lower density in this demographic. Overlaying county boundaries on the map reveals that darker green areas predominantly cluster along highways and in urban centers.
