NAPSACC has Indoor Physical Activity Ideas

Written by Child Care Aware® of Missouri | Jan 13, 2025 11:17:11 PM

Keeping children physically active during the winter months is key to maintaining their physical and mental health, and yours. All it takes is a little creativity and having resources at your fingertips.

Through participating in the Go NAPSACC project, you have access to those resources. Child Care Aware® of Missouri continues to partner with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to support participating child care programs with strategies and tools to increase children’s physical activity and nutrition.

What is Go NAPSACC?

The Go NAPSACC project utilizes an online self-assessment tool created by the University of North Carolina called the Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment Child Care (NAPSACC). It compares your current practices to best practices for nutrition and physical activity for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Whether it confirms you are already following best practices or there is room for growth, the children, their families as well as you and your staff reap the benefits of a healthier program.

NAPSACC has seven modules. As part of the project, you only need to complete one module. To get started, the self-assessment takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. From there, the website suggests goals and action plans for your program based on the results of your self-assessment. The goals and action plans can be personalized. The abundance of resources and ideas helps you achieve your goals. One such resource answers our initial question, “Did you know there are 25 physical activities you can do with paper plates?” Click here for 25 Active Things To Do With Paper Plates and additional information on Go NAPSACC.

You will not be working on this project independently. Your program will have an assigned Technical Assistance Specialist who will provide technical assistance to support you through your journey. Your TA Specialist will give your program one-on-one support to help you achieve your goals.   Once you have achieved two goals in one module, you will receive a $75 Kaplan gift card from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
