Kate Sears, Owner/Director of The Eagles Nest in Jasper has been participating in Go Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment Child Care (NAPSACC) since June 2024. She joined the project to increase the quality of their center and ensure they were following best practices to serve their community and families best.

Kate and her staff have accomplished at least six goals, completing three of the seven NAPSACC modules.  As a result of achieving their goals in Screen Time, Child Nutrition, and Infant Feeding & Breastfeeding, Kate and her staff have:

- Reduced screen time, limiting it to specific content while increasing outdoor playtime to at least 60-120 minutes each day.
- Created policies to implement new breastfeeding practices to best support families.
- Increased nutrition practices by joining Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Teamwork was the key to their success.  Kate acknowledges it took the whole staff working together to make and sustain the changes.  She found even the smallest changes can have a big impact.  Kate saw that families did not always notice the changes but certainly saw an increase in satisfaction.

The staff at The Eagle’s Nest look forward to continuing their journey to increasing health and wellness at their program by working on the Farm to ECE module to create a garden.  Kate is very proud of the work she and her staff have done to increase the quality of the program. When asked what would you say to someone who is thinking about joining the NAPSACC project, Kate responded, “Do it! The support I received ensured we were doing what was best for our center and community.  The resources available have great information and made such a difference.”
