Farm to ECE Benefits Young Children

Farm to ECE Benefits Young Children

In June, Missouri farm to school and early childhood education state agencies are hosting six interactive sessions across the state to discuss how we can move forward to increase opportunities for farmers and early childhood programs to collaborate to provide healthier environments for young children.

So what is farm to preschool? It is child care centers and family child care programs using local farmers to serve regionally grown food to the children within their facilities. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be purchased directly from a farmer or at a local community farmer's market. This supports other small businesses within the community and, when combined with offering hands-on activities, such as gardening, visits to farms, and culinary activities, supports children's enthusiasm to try new foods. It's a win for everyone!
