Are You Looking for Children's Physical Activity Ideas?

There is a chill in the air as the leaves begin to fall. Soon, winter will be here, and you will be unable to take the children outside. Don’t wait until you are at your wit's end!

Child Care Aware® of Missouri has limited openings in its Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services partnership Go NAPSACC project to provide you with strategies and tools to keep the children engaged in physical activity all year long.

Michelle Leigh, Director of Tri-City Christian Early Learning Center in Blue Springs, stated, “The resources and technical assistance helped us to find new fun activities to make indoor playtime exciting. We have more opportunities for children to be creative and exercise their bodies.”

What is Go NAPSACC?

  • The purpose of the project is to increase children’s physical activity and nutrition.
  • NAPSACC (Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment Child Care) is an online self-assessment tool created by the University of North Carolina.
  • It looks at best practices for nutrition and physical activity for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • The NAPSACC has seven sections. But as part of the project, we ask you to complete only one section.
  • Completing a module self-assessment takes about 10-15 minutes.
  • Once you have completed the module, the website helps you set goals for your program that you can personalize.
  • It is packed with resources and ideas to achieve your goals, including new recipes!

It is a small project that does not require a lot of time but can produce large results for the children and families in your program.

This is not something you would be working on alone. Your program will have an assigned Technical Assistance Specialist that will provide technical assistance through FaceTime, Zoom, or a similar platform. Your TA Specialist will give your program one-on-one support to help you achieve your goals. Once you have reached two goals, you will receive a $75 Discount School Supply gift card.

If you are interested in participating in the project, don't hesitate to contact Lauri Choate, Director of Wellness Initiatives, at lauri@mochildcareaware.org or 314-754-1603.
