Changes to the CDA = Increased Efficiency
The Council for Professional Recognition, the organization that awards the Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential™, is making important updates designed to better support today’s early childhood professionals.
As a national standard for professional competence in early childhood education, the CDA has always been grounded in a rigorous, multi-step process. Candidates demonstrate their knowledge and skills through the CDA® exam, a professional portfolio, and a verification visit. Together, these components ensure a well-rounded, evidence-based evaluation of each educator’s ability to support young learners.
Now, in response to the growing demand for high-quality early childhood education, the Council is modernizing the credentialing process bringing greater efficiency while maintaining the integrity and objectivity the CDA is known for.
What’s New?
✔️ Faster Pathways to Credentialing
Candidates who demonstrate a strong level of competence on the CDA® exam, along with meeting all education, training, and experience requirements, may now be eligible for an expedited award decision. This means some candidates can earn their CDA without a verification visit, allowing qualified educators to move forward in their careers quicker.
✔️ Digital Portfolio Submissions
Say goodbye to paper portfolios. Candidates will now upload their CDA® Professional Portfolio digitally as part of the application process using scanned documents or photos. This streamlined approach reduces barriers, saves time, and makes the process more accessible for busy educators.
These updates reflect a thoughtful balance: maintaining the high standards that make the CDA a trusted credential, while removing unnecessary barriers that can slow down dedicated professionals. For early childhood educators who are ready to grow, lead, and make an even greater impact, these changes create a more accessible and efficient pathway forward.
