Demographic and Economic Resources

Sometimes CCAMO acts as a curator of data rather than being a data originator. One essential tool we use is the COVID-19 Impact Planning Report, a tool developed by the U.S. Census Bureau in response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation.

The Impact Planning Report is an interactive dashboard where one can research demographic data and key facts by state and/or by county using multiple categories: businesses, poverty, at-risk populations, and health insurance coverage. The tool also reports on a variety of demographics such as households:

  • Below the poverty level
  • Receiving food stamps/SNAP
  • Without a vehicle
  • With a disability

This remarkable tool goes beyond just a response to COVID-19 and becomes an essential device to do a deep dive into the economic conditions within states and counties. The data primarily comes from the American Community Survey (ACS) and County Business Patterns (CBP).

The ACS Data Profiles provide data about social, economic, housing, and demographic characteristics for multiple geographic areas. The CBP is an annual series that provides subnational economic data by industry. This data is useful for studying the economic activity of small areas; analyzing economic changes over time; and as a benchmark for other statistical series, surveys, and databases between economic censuses.

Below is the Impact Planning Report for the State of Missouri. In it, we can see indicators for the general population, businesses, poverty, school enrollment, health insurance coverage, languages spoken at home, etc.
